It’s a story about what it means to love someone. It’s a very interesting and sweet take on life, and time- with a whole bunch of interesting twists!

Bio:

Miranda Hughes is ecstatic to be doing her first costume design for a Live Five production and to be working again with Neverending Highway Productions! This summer she designed the costumes for Neverending Highway Productions’ Dr. Frightful Presents: Dead Air which toured across Canada at various Fringe Festivals. Currently she is finishing up her BFA at the University of Saskatchewan, where you can see her act in Greystone Theatre’s upcoming production Coram Boy.

What Excites Johnna About The Clockmaker:Johnna Wright

I love the way the story is so multi-layered. You could go back and see this play again, once you know where the twists and turns are, and get even more out of it than you did the first time.

Johnna’s Bio:

Johnna is delighted to be directing for Live Five twice this season, having started in September with Reasons to be Pretty (Fire in the Hole/Live Five). Recent credits include The Taming of the Shrew (Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan; SATAward, Achievement in Direction). Johnna is a two-time recipient of Vancouver’s Jessie Richardson Awards for Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Production (The Merry Wives of Windsor, Bard on the Beach 2013, and The Triumph of Love, Blackbird Theatre 2008). She is proud to have co-founded several Canadian theatre companies, including Vancouver’s Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival. Next, she will direct for Drayton Entertainment in Ontario.

What Excites Chris About The Clockmaker:

This show immediately puts us off balance, with its wonderful blend of intrigue, humour, and tension, and never lets up. It’s a piece of writing that really drives, and I believe Saskatoon audiences will be talking about this story long after they leave the theatre.

Bio:

Chris is thrilled to have worked on The Clockmaker, his second Live Five show and first as a sound designer! Chris is a BFA-Acting graduate from the University of Saskatchewan. He has designed and composed for various productions in the past. Sound credits: Saskatchewan Outdoors (Embrace Theatre/Saskatchewan Provincial Parks); Dr. Frightful Presents: DEAD AIR (Neverending Highway Productions); Bottome’s Dreame (Embrace Theatre). Performing credits: It’s A Wonderful Life (Persephone Theatre); Candide; Carmen (Opera Nuova); Stop Kiss (Embrace Theatre/Live Five); The Composer is Dead (Saskatoon Symphony); Into The Woods (Greystone Theatre). The characters in The Clockmaker offer the most excitement for me. They are subtle, but very rich.
Bio:

Jenna has had a wonderful time working with such a talented group of artists. Recent credits: Set design for Stop Kiss (Embrace Theatre/Live Five), 2014 SaskTel Youth Tour (Persphone Theatre), La Chambre Blanche (La Troupe du Jour), and A Man A Fish (Persephone’s Deep End Series) for which she won a Saskatoon and Area Theatre Award. Upcoming : Set design for La Raccourcie (La Troupe du Jour). Special thanks to Grahame Kent and Charlie Peters for creating opportunities for Saskatoon artists.

How exactly does the play you see on opening night come to be?

We want to show you!                                                   

Neverending Highway and Embrace Theatre are seeking a member of our audience to come behind the scenes and learn about our theatre-making process, and then document it in a series of videos to be posted online. We are giving one audience member unparalleled access to our entire rehearsal process for our upcoming production of The Clockmaker at Live Five.

What you provide:

  1. a sense of curiosity

  2. an investment of time to witness the production as it progresses, to ask questions, and to document your process of discovery
  3. time in the editing suite to create the short videos

What we provide:

  1. Access to each step of our production
  2. A professional consultant to support the video-creation
  3. A camera (or you can use your own)

Timeline and Commitment:

Pre–production work is already underway, but only a few hours in October and November will be needed. We enter rehearsals in December, and then a few hours every week or so will be required (we are taking time off for Christmas, of course!). In January we reach the height of our rehearsal process with tech week January 11-14th, preview January 15th, and opening night January 16th.

To Apply:

Submit a 1-2 minute video of yourself explaining why you should be the one to come backstage. Send it to us by October 20th. We’ll choose our collaborator by November.

Jenna-Lee Hyde has been nominated twice for Achievement in Performance, including for Stop Kiss!

Gilles Zolty has been nominated thrice for Achievement in Sound Design, including Stop Kiss!

Jenna Maren has been nominated twice for Achievement in Set design, including Stop Kiss!

Our Artistic Director Charlie Peters has been nominated for Achievement in Direction for Stop Kiss!

Curtis Peeteetuce (Stop Kiss Ensemble) has been nominated for Achievement in Sound Design!

Performances continue in Saskatoon at the PotashCorp Fringe Festival – we’re hoping for no rain so our show can perform!

Meet the Saskatchewan Outdoors Team: Emma Thorpe

Emma Thorpe – Co-Creator/Performer

Emma Thorpe has trained as a performer at both the Randolph Academy in Toronto and the Drama Department of the University of Saskatchewan. In addition to acting, she has trained as a singer and dancer, has achieved certification as a stage combatant, and has earned Grade 8 RCM certification as a violinist – skills that will be put to use in this production. She has theatre devising experience from work with Ground Cover Theatre’s Displaced and Embrace Theatre’s adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Bottome’s Dreame. She has also taught drama to children at the University of Saskatchewan’s summer drama camps and with Family Service Saskatoon.
