On the Rocks showcases a woman’s quest for self-discovery. Learning that her own experiences mirror those of mermaids in myths, she finds she is not alone in her experiences navigating sexual assault. Using spoken word poetry, On the Rocks explores hybridity, bisexuality, trauma, healing, depression, myth, and maternal lineage.

Originally created as the thesis project for Danielle Altrogge’s Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the University of Saskatchewan, On the Rocks will have its first staging as part of the double-bill Elemental alongside Charlie Peters’ Many Fires. The piece will be performed by Amanda Trapp.
